Evelina Zuni Lucero:

Evelina Zuni Lucero, Isleta/Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo, is a fiction writer and chair of the creative writing department. She also has a degree in journalism from Stanford University and has worked as a journalist for Native news publications.
She is author of Night Sky, Morning Star and recipient of a 2007 Mabel Dodge Luhan House residency in Taos, New Mexico.


Elena Higgins:

'elena' was born and raised in Aoteroa (the land of the long white cloud), New Zealand. She is of Maori and Samoan heritage. She is desperately trying to adjust to the climate change (shock) in Santa Fe after spending the last ten years on a tropical island in Australia.  In her first semester at IAIA she comes with many wonderful & colourful tales to share with those who wish to listen. She says, "Kia kaha"! (In her language it means "be strong, be proud of who you are and believe in yourself").

 

Natasha Terry:

Natasha was born and raised on the Navajo reservation, which she prefers to call "Nation" as the word Nation has a more sovereign sound. As a Navajo woman from a matrilineal heritage and background, she believes Native Americans should take their power back by telling their own stories. She says, "There is one thing that cannot be taken from our Navajo Nation by outsiders, and that is our language."

 

Vicki Morigeau: 

Vicki Morigeau is working toward a BFA in creative writing at IAIA.  Writing plays and fiction are her main interests.  She is a member of the Confederated Salish & Kootenai tribes of the Flathead nation.

 

Layli Long Soldier

Layli Long Soldier, Oglala Lakota, is a writer and musician, currently enrolled in the creative writing program at the Institute of American Indian Arts. Her family is from northwestern Idaho and the Pine Ridge reservation in South Dakota. She is a new mother, editor-in-chief of the "Native Language Network" newsletter for the Indigenous Language Institute and a recent recipient of the Truman Capote Scholarship Award

 

Tanya Keene

Tanya Keene is Mescalero Apache, Caddo, Acoma Pueblo and Navajo from Mescalero, New Mexico.  She is a junior at IAIA, pursuing her bachelor of fine arts in creative writing.

Dulbert Yazzie

Dulbert Yazzie is currently attending IAIA and will graduate this semester.  He is a recipient of the Truman Capote Fellowship for 2006-2007.
